White Plains resident Nickohlas Davis, 19, was charged with one count of first-degree robbery following a late-night incident in Yonkers on Thursday, Oct. 17, involving a female taxi driver.
Officers from the Yonkers Police Department responded to the intersection of Elm Street and Walnut Street shortly before 3:15 a.m. on the day of the alleged robbery, where they located the 39-year-old driver, who said that she was working as a taxi driver and had her vehicle stolen by two armed men who proceeded to flee. The driver was unharmed in the incident.
According to police, the investigation determined that the driver was waiting to pick up a fare on William Street when she was confronted by two men who entered her vehicle. One suspect allegedly displayed a handgun and the other had a knife. The two also took the driver’s cellphone and car keys before demanding her to leave the vehicle and driving away.
Police said that investigators were able to track the vehicle to the area of Route 9 in Cortlandt, and a canvas of the area found the vehicle on Albany Post Road in Montrose. Surveillance of the vehicle led to the arrest of Davis, who allegedly showed the handgun during the robbery.
Davis was arrested and arraigned on Friday, Oct. 18. He’s currently remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear back in court on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
